Facultat de Matemàtiques

Universitat de Barcelona

LOCATION

The postal adress of the department is

Gran Via 585
08007 Barcelona
Spain

Tel: +34 93 402 1650 -- Fax: +34 93 402 1601

The department is located inside the Facultat de Matemàtiques, in the central building of the Universitat de Barcelona. It has two connected components, marked in the map with letters A and B. Component A is a two-storie "modern" building, only one of them above the ground. Component B is on the first floor of the main old building. The brown dots are the two main entrances to the campus. The color green indicates open air.

With some exceptions, those working in dynamical systems are located mainly in component A, while those working in analysis have their offices in component B.

WAI Volume Visualization and Artificial Intelligence Research Group (http://wai.maia.ub.es) is located at C.

HOW TO ARRIVE

The Facultat de Matemàtiques (blue dot in the map below) is located in Plaça Universitat. The subway lines L1 (red) and L2 (purple) stop here. Also many city buses like 42, 55, 124, 24, etc.
We are also at 5 minutes walking distance from the neuralgic center of town, PLAÇA CATALUNYA (large brown dot in the map below).

There are several ways to arrive to PLAÇA CATALUNYA:

Coming by plane

Aerobus (Airport Blue Bus)

Runs between the Barcelona Airport and Plaça de Catalunya every 15 minutes.

Purchase the ticket on the bus.

This line provides buses adapted for disabled people.

Renfe train

There is only one train line (called C1, or sometimes just 1) from the airport to the city. You will find the Airport train station at the bottom of the map (line 1 is in grey). You can access the Airport train station by following the RENFE signs , walking through a white and red elevated brigde that you'll see as soon as you walk out the terminal (there is only one bridge, and there are signs indicating the train). Trains depart every 30 minutes from 6:13am to 11:40pm. You must get down in PLAÇA CATALUNYA, which is the 4th stop. It takes 25 minutes from the Airport to Plaça Catalunya (Price: 2.60 EUR; credit cards not accepted).

IMPORTANT NOTE: DURING MOST OF 2006 THERE ARE RAILWORKS BEING UNDETAKEN ON THE RENFE LINE FROM THE AIRPORT TO BARCELONA CITY CENTRE AND THERE WILL BE SOME DISTRUPTION TO SERVICE INCLUDING AN ADDITIONAL CHANGE THAT IS REQUIRED AT ONE STOP

Taxi

By taxi. From the airport to Pl. Catalunya should take around 20-30 minutes and expect to pay around 25 EUR, depending on traffic. It is usually a good idea to ask for a receipt. There will also be an additional surcharge charge for each bag you're carrying

Coming by train

If you arrive to Barcelona by train then you will probably arrive at either Estació de Sants or Estació de França. From Sants you can take a local train or a metro to Pl. Catalunya, and continue as above. From França station you should take a metro to Pl. Catalunya from the nearby Barceloneta stop or simply walk up La Rambla to Pl. Catalunya (1.5 kilometres).

Coming by car

The University is located in the center of town. Coming from the north, merge into highway C33 from A7 towards Barcelona. After a while, follow signs to "Rondes" and, in particular, to "Ronda Litoral". This is (half of) a belt that surrounds the city bordering the see. You must take exit 28 ("Glòries - Gran Via") which will take you into the city. Once you find the first light, you are already in "Gran Via", the street where the University is. But this is a one way street (and not your way). So, make a right turn and immediately a left, to take the parallel street "Diputació". Follow this street for a good while until you find "Balmes". Make a left there and you will see the university building on your right at the end of the block.

Fares and timetables are up-to-date (September 2006).
