Leuven, Belgium September 8-10, 2004 http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/conference/tds04/ tds04@cs.kuleuven.ac.be This workshop on time-delay systems is the fifth in a series of IFAC workshops, after Grenoble (France, 1998), Ancona (Italy, 2000) Santa Fe (USA, 2001) and Rocquencourt (France, 2003). The objective of the organizers is to bring together researchers interested in the field of control of time-delay systems. Conference topics concern the many aspects of this active research area, ranging from control theory over numerical methods to various applications. The preliminary program is now available at the conference web-site ! Plenary Lectures -S. Drakunov (Tulane University) "Distributed Delay Estimation via Sliding-Mode Observers" -R. Jimack Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2004 09:23:51 +0100 (BST) A fully-funded PhD studentship is available at the University of Leeds to work on a computational project entitled "A Phase-Field Model for Simulating the Coupled Thermal-Chemical Solidification of Alloys". This is a collaborative project between the Scientific Computing Group in the School of Computing and the Institute of Materials. The emphasis of the studentship is on the development and analysis of parallel algorithms for the phase-field simulation of the rapid solidification of alloys under non-isothermal conditions. Applicants should have a good Bachelors or Masters degree in a Mathematical or Physical science or an appropriate Engineering discipline. The studentship is open to all European Community candidates and includes payment of all fees plus a tax-free grant of 10500 UKP in the first year, rising to 12000 UKP in years two and three. The closing date for applications is August 4th 2004: please send a brief covering letter, a cv (including details of two academic referees) and a completed application form (available from http://www.leeds.ac.uk/students/appfmweb.doc) to Prof. Peter Jimack, School of Computing, University of Leeds, Leeds, Ls2 9JT, UK. Further details may be obtained from Dr Andrew Mullis (Institute of Materials) or Professor Peter Jimack (School of Computing). ------ Subject: Contents, MBE 1:2 From: Yang Kuang Date: Thu, 01 Jul 2004 08:11:29 -0700 Dear all, I would like to inform you that the second issue of MBE is now online. I urge you to take a look to see if there are any articles of interest. If not, please make suggestions on how MBE can accommodate your interest in the near future. The registration process is simple and straight and is needed to keep track of the download record of each and every paper. http://math.asu.edu/~mbe/ The print version will be out in September or sooner. MBE is here to serve you and welcomes your suggestions for future improvement. Best Regards. Yang Kuang Volume 1, Number 2, September, 2004 Yang Kuang, Jef Huisman and James J.
